FAQs

What is the difference between hemp and marijuana?

Hemp and marijuana come from the same plant species, cannabis sativa.  Therefore, when someone says “cannabis,” it can refer to either hemp or marijuana.

Cannabis sativa produces chemicals unique to the plant called cannabinoids.  Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and Cannabidiol (CBD) are two types of cannabinoids produced by hemp and marijuana plants.

THC is considered a Schedule 1 drug by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).  THC is an intoxicating substance with psychological effects such as “getting high.” Marijuana can contain up to 30% THC.  Some states have legalized marijuana for personal, recreational use or for medical use.

Hemp is different from marijuana in its function, cultivation and application.  Hemp has a wide range of uses including food, clothing, paper, rope and other industrial uses.

On December 20, 2018, Donald Trump signed The Federal Farm Bill into law.  For the first time, the law defined hemp as an agricultural product.  It legalized industrial hemp with non-detectable THC (less than 0.3%) and removed CBD from the Controlled Substances Act.  The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is responsible for CBD regulation.

It is important to note that CBD is non-psychoactive.  In other words, you cannot get “stoned” taking CBD.

Hemp plants produce more CBD than THC, while marijuana plants produce more THC than CBD.  Research has shown that CBD acts to reduce the psychoactive effects of THC, separating hemp further from marijuana.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a cannabinoid found in hemp and marijuana plants. CBD is a non-psychoactive cannabis compound that interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) receptors. The ECS is involved in multiple physiological processes including pain-sensation, appetite, memory and mood.

What CBD product do you recommend for my specific medical condition?

CBD products sold at CBD Wellness comply with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s DSHEA guidelines for dietary supplements.  Therefore, we cannot endorse any specific medical benefit of CBD.  Please consult with your doctor before adding CBD or other dietary supplements to your diet.

Where can I learn more about the benefits of taking CBD?

There are thousands of reputable studies online regarding the benefits of CBD.  CBD Wellness encourages you to research the information and consult with your doctor before adding CBD or other dietary supplements to your diet.

Is CBD legal?

In 2014, The Federal Farm Bill (Agricultural Act of 2014), was signed by Barack Obama.  It legalized the cultivation of hemp as long as it contained non-detectable THC (less than 0.3% per dry weight).

CBD sourced from industrial hemp grown under the guidelines of the Agricultural Act of 2014 is legal across the United States when sold as a dietary supplement, regardless of your state’s laws on marijuana and marijuana CBD Oil.

CBD Wellness only sells products that are legal under the federal law to adults 18 years and older.  Our products comply with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s DSHEA guidelines for dietary supplements.

What type of CBD do you sell at CBD Wellness?

CBD products sold at CBD Wellness are from reputable companies that use CBD sourced from hemp legally grown in the United States.  The products we sell are from high-resin, CBD-rich hemp.

CBD Wellness recommends thoroughly researching all of the products we offer and discussing with your doctor before adding CBD or other dietary supplements to your diet.

Is CBD safe to use?

CBD is generally safe and should not produce any adverse side effects in most people. However, each person reacts to CBD and other dietary supplements differently.  Please consult with your doctor before adding CBD or other dietary supplements to your diet.

Can I get “high” on CBD?

CBD Wellness sells CBD products sourced from hemp that contain high CBD content and non-detectable amounts of THC (0.3% per dry weight).  It is highly unlikely that you will get “high” using our dietary supplements.  However, consult with your doctor before adding CBD or other dietary supplements to your diet.

Will CBD show up on my drug test?

CBD Wellness recommends that you consult with your employer, company or whomever may be testing you prior to using any of our CBD products to get their approval.

CBD sourced from hemp is sold without restriction in the United States as an over-the-counter supplement as it contains non-detectable THC (less than 0.3% per dry weight).  However, anything consumed in large amounts could trigger a false positive, including CBD sourced from hemp.

Most companies set their positive drug test limits similar to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) guidelines. Generally speaking, for THC, this limit is 50ng/ml.  This means that if the urine tested is below 50ng/ml, it shows as a negative test result even though THC may be present.

What is the difference between CBD isolate and full spectrum CBD?

Isolate means that out of all the cannabinoids in a hemp plant (e.g., THC, CBD, CBC, CBN, CBG), only the CBD is extracted.  While full spectrum means you get the entire plant with all the cannabinoids.

Is full spectrum better than isolate?

A large part of alternative medicine revolves around using the entire plant for medicinal purposes rather than isolating the active ingredient.

Studies suggest that medical substances may be more effective in their whole and natural state.  This is called the entourage effect, where consuming an entire plant is better than consuming part of the plant.

In full spectrum CBD, all the cannabinoids (e.g., THC, CBD, CBC, CBN, CBG) interact with the body to produce a stronger influence than any one of those single components.

Some people prefer CBD isolate while others swear by full spectrum CBD.  You may need to try both in order to see which you prefer.

Please consult with your doctor before adding CBD or other dietary supplements to your diet.

What are terpenes?

The hemp plant contains over 200 terpenes.  Terpenes are aromatic compounds that give plants their scent and color.

Terpenes bind to receptors in the body.  For example, the endocannabinoid system (ECS) is one of the most important targets of terpenes. When combined with CBD, terpenes bind to neurotransmitters and receptors in the brain.

How many milligrams of CBD should I take per day?

The average recommended CBD dosage is 20 mg per day.  However, it is dependent on the individual person.  Some people may need a higher dosage per day while others may need a lower dosage per day.  There is no real set answer because each person is different.

If you are new to CBD, it is recommended that you start with 10 mg, two times a day.  Make sure you are consistent in taking CBD every day in order to maximize the natural balancing properties of CBD and the effectiveness of the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS).

Please consult with your doctor before adding CBD or other dietary supplements to your diet, and to determine the dosage that is right for you.

What about dosage strength?  For example, is a 1500 mg bottle of CBD stronger than a 150 mg bottle?

The simple answer is no.  It is not about the dosage strength but about how long CBD will last in your system based on 20 mg per day.

If you take 20 mg CBD per day, a 150 mg bottle will last 7.5 days and a 1500 mg bottle will last 75 days.  Therefore, a 1500 mg bottle will last much longer than a 150 mg bottle.

Is hemp seed oil/hemp cooking oil the same as hemp oil/CBD oil?

No.  Hemp cooking oil or hemp seed oil is derived by cold-pressing hemp seeds from the hemp plant.  Hemp cooking oil is sold at most grocery stores and is similar to olive oil in that it is drizzled on food or used as vinaigrette on salad.  There is no CBD or THC in hemp cooking oil.  Hemp cooking oil is usually sold in 8, 16 or 24 fluid ounce bottles.

High amounts of CBD are found in hemp oil which is also known as CBD oil.  CBD oil is derived from the leaves, stalks and flowers of the hemp plant.  CBD oil is suspended in an inert oil solution such as hemp seed oil, grape seed oil, MCT oil or coconut oil, and is usually sold in a 1 fluid ounce bottle with a dropper.

Can I use CBD for my pets?

CBD is generally safe for most pets.  Many animals have an endocannabinoid system (ECS), including but not limited to dogs and cats.  Please consult with your pet’s veterinarian to determine if CBD or other dietary supplements can be added to your pet’s diet.

CBD Wellness sells tinctures, treats and dehydrated snacks specifically made for pets.  Our pet products contain hemp sourced CBD with non-detectable THC (less than 0.3% per dry weight).
